Frequently Asked Questions about Finances

Can I use my INSURANCe benefits?

I contract with a group therapy practice that provides insurance billing for most commercial BlueCross BlueShield and Aetna plans. You are responsible for checking your coverage, confirming that I am in-network with your plan, and are responsible for any payments dictated by your insurance including balances after insurance claims are processed.

Can I use my out-of-network benefits?

Yes! If you have insurance with an insurance carrier other than BCBS or Aetna, you may be able to utilize your out-of-network benefits. This may be subject to your out-of-network deductible and I cannot guarantee any reimbursement amounts that may be paid to you. You are responsible for contacting your insurance company to determine what your out-of-network benefits are, submitting the superbill to them, and following up with them on potential reimbursement.

It is important to note that if you’d like to utilize out-of-network benefits, a diagnosis is required and the documentation becomes part of your medical record. If you do not meet criteria to be diagnosed with a mental health disorder or you do not want a diagnosis identified on documentation, you’ll need to contact your insurance company directly about if out-of-network benefits can be used. If not, private pay is still an option!

If you have BCBS or Aetna insurance, out-of-network benefits are not available and superbills will not be provided.

Do you offer a reduced rate?

For private pay clients, I currently offer a reduced rate for a set number of clients at a time that meet for weekly or every-other-week sessions. If there is a reduced rate opening available and you agree to that amount in writing, the reduced rate will remain in place for 3 months. At that time, you will have the option to renew for another 3 months if needed. Reduced rate openings are available on a first come, first serve basis. There is not a guarantee an opening will become available during your time in treatment. Reduced rates are not available for those using BCBS or Aetna insurance as rates are established by your insurance carrier.

When is payment due?

Payment is collected at the end of each session. If a session is missed without 24-hour notice, the full fee will be charged. Any balance on your account must be paid before your next session, unless a prior written agreement is made between us.

How do I pay if we meet online?

For private pay clients, there is an easy and convenient way to pay for your sessions right from your phone! Payments are collected via IvyPay, which is a secure payment app created for therapy practices that allows you to save your card information for easy payments. I send you a text invite before the initial appointment for you to save your card information with Ivy, and then you get a text after anytime it is charged. You can update the card with Ivy anytime!

For insurance clients, payment is handled in the portal where we meet for sessions. You’ll save your card in that portal so the system can charge for any co-pays, co-insurance, deductible amounts, or missed appointment fees.

What happens if I want a session that only involves yoga or reiki and no therapy?

All sessions involve some levels of therapy, typically the holistic practices are just there to supplement the therapeutic work happening. If you request a session to be primarily yoga or Reiki, there will still be some therapy involved as we explore and talk about emotions showing up in different parts of the body, but it may not meet clinical standards to be eligible for insurance benefits. For private-pay clients, superbills would not be available to submit for reimbursement for this type of session. For clients that typically use insurance, these sessions would be private pay and Kimberleigh will inform you in writing of the rate prior to the session.
